Horizon Plus was established by the collaboration between Arun Plus Co., Ltd, leader of comprehensive EV ecosystem, one of new businesses of PTT, and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., Ltd (FOXCONN), world leader of electronics and EV innovation technology. Horizon Plus laid the foundation stone of EV manufacturing factory on the surface of 313 rai in Rojana Industrial Park, Nong Yai District, Chon Buri Province. The ceremony was presided by Professor Dr. Thosaporn Sirisumphand, Chairman, and Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon, President and CEO of PTT Public Co., Ltd.
Also present in the ceremony the executives of FOXCONN, PTT, BOI, as well as the representatives of EEC, and Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Thailand.
Professor Dr. Thosaporn Sirisumphand revealed that “The main mission of PTT is to establish the stability in terms of energy for Thailand, especially during the transition to clean energy.
Investing and developing the EV ecosystem is therefore a part of PTT’s mission.
The ceremony of foundation stone laying of HORIZON PLUS is a pivotal starting point.
The comprehensive EV manufacturing factory with FOXCONN will be a foundation for other development projects upstream or downstream, for example, automobile part production. This will also support the transition of Thai manufacturers in supply chain from combustion engine to electric vehicle”.
Mr. Auttapol Rerkpiboon added that “The collaboration with FOXCONN does not concern only the investment into the EV manufacturing, but also into the research and development of innovation and technology transfer to entrepreneurs, skills enhancement of the workforce, participating in Thailand EV industry sustainable development and economic growth, as well as the transition to low carbon society. Today’s ceremony is a decisive step to inspire confidence that PTT and partners will operate the business under the vision ‘Powering Life with Future Energy and Beyond’. In addition, PTT’s embarking on the EV industry outlines important strategy that helps us achieve the Net Zero GHG emission goal by 2050. This highlights the fact that future business operation must consider the society and the environment, so that Thailand can prosper in every aspect healthily and sustainably.”
Dr. Buranin Rattanasombat, Chief New Business and Infrastructure Officer of PTT and Chairman of HORIZON PLUS, said that “HORIZON PLUS is designed with the BOL or Build-Operate-Localize concept, implementing world advanced technology into the design and the development to satisfy the needs of consumers and local supply chain. The company invest over one billion US dollars. We can produce 50,000 units per year, and in 2030, we will be able to produce 150,000 units per year. The construction of the factory will be complete, and we will be able to deliver the first EVs in 2024. The company employs over 2,000 high-skilled workers. Now, we are ready to provide services to all interested EV entrepreneurs. With cutting-edge technology, we can reduce production time and costs, offering maximum advantage to both consumers and entrepreneurs following the EV support policy”.
Mr. Kay Chiu, General Manager of HORIZON PLUS, also revealed that “The factory is constructed with the automation system to augment the productivity and reduce costs and time. Moreover, we plan to increase the proportion of clean energy in the manufacturing process. It will also reduce waste and drive HORIZON PLUS towards the regional leader of modern and competent EV manufacturer. With the expertise in semiconductor and electronics of Hon Hai Group as well as the long experience in OEM manufacturing, the business operation of HORIZON PLUS will succeed and propel Thailand to become the leader EV manufacturer of FOXCONN outside Taiwan, and the EV manufacturer of ASEAN”.
